CAGSAWA BELFRY UPCLOSE

Inside the picturesque, famous and intriguing belfry of Cagsawa church in Albay Province.

The Cagsawa Church was greatly damaged after the massive eruption of the most active volcano in the country, Mt. Mayon, on 1 Feb 1814, killing and burying at least 1200 people, including those people who sought refuge inside belfry, with pyroclasts, lahar and tephra. The rest is history.

I took the photo on 1 May 2016, to reveal what’s inside the intriguing, mysterious, famous and picturesque belfry in Daraga, Albay.
