1995 Popemobile

Designed by the local Jeepney manufacturer, Francisco Motors, the bullet-proof popemobile was used by the third longest-serving pontiff, John Paul II (Karol Jósef Wojtyla), during his second and last trip in the Philippines for the occasion of the 10th World Youth Day in 1995.

The Philippines is the first Asian country to host the historic Catholic youth festival.

According to Guinness World Records, the World Youth Day in 1995 was acclaimed to be the largest Papal gathering in the history of the Roman Catholic church.

The first non-Italian Pope visited the country for the first time on 17 February 1981 for the canonization of San Lorenzo Ruiz.
