PNSI AIMS FOR SIXTH LBC RONDA PILIPINAS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

LBC Ronda Pilipinas is about to happen two days from now, here in the Province of Sorsogon.

Eleven teams comprised of 88 riders are all set for the 1,367-km length race divided into ten stage-races.

Among the eleven teams competing in the 2020 LBC Ronda Pilipinas anniversary race is the five-consecutive overall team classification champion (2014 to 2018), Philippine Navy Standard Insurance (PNSI).

PNSI is an elite club team under the stewardship of Mr. Reinhard B. Gorantes, one of the original members of the six-man squad of the Philippine Navy since Mr. Ernesto T. Echauz, the team owner, sponsored the PNSI in 2012.

Further, Jan Paul Morales, the PNSI skipper, is the only original team member since 2012.

By the same token, Santy Barnachea, Eboy Quiñones, Eric Feliciano, Lloyd Reynante were once members of this cycling club.

For the record, the Standard Insurance sponsorship started in 2012 when Mr. Ernesto Echauz’s triathlete daughter was looking for a trainor who could train the former for the triathlon competition. Eventually, Ms. Echauz was referred to Philippine Navy Commodore Noel M. De Vera, and the rest is history.

Since 2017, Col Noel Beleran has been managing the Navy Squad.

As mentioned by Gorantes, the Palayan City to Baguio City stage race will be the “deciding stage” in identifying the LBC Ronda Pilipinas anniversary race conqueror.

Aside from the stage mentioned, he likewise cited the Daet to Lucena City and Lucena City to Antipolo City stages as another most dreaded stage races.

Still, the Philippine Navy Standard Insurance is uncomplacent with high hopes of grasping the seventh consecutive team classification overall championship title in the country’s most prominent cycling race, LBC Ronda Pilipinas.
